Let's enjoy a day of mystery and spirituality in an area that has a very special atmosphere.

Glastonbury is one of THE centres of Arthurian legend. Arthur and Guinevere are reputed to be buried at its haunting ruined abbey, which is traditionally the first Christian sanctuary in Britain. Many believe that the Holy Thorn tree in its grounds sprang from Joseph of Arimathea's staff. We can also visit Glastonbury's White and Red Springs, which are said to have healing powers. And, if you're feeling hearty, we should climb the Tor for the amazing views from its summit. But be warned, it's quite a lengthy and challenging hike!

Just a few miles from Glastonbury is the charming city of Wells, where we'll visit the outstanding Gothic cathedral. Its extraordinary West Front boasts some 400 carved figures. Then there's the Bishop's Palace, with a moat whose population of swans is, by longstanding tradition, trained to ring a bell at feeding time, and the Vicars' Close, said to be the oldest planned street in Europe.
