The Peak District
Experience Brtian's first National Park. Weather (or your own hardiness) permitting, we can enjoy rolling fields and wild moorland, crocky crags, lakes and river valleys of startling beauty. Alternativley, we can drive through the lovely countryside, criss-crossed with traditional dry stone walls, stopping in pretty villages for frequent refreshments! Then on to Chatsworth House, the magnificent mansion that has been home to the Dukes of Devonshire for centuries. The house itself is packed with treasures, and the gardens boast some of Britain's most famous water features. There's also a working farmyard to visit, with a renowned farm shop attached. In fact, we could happily spend a whole day exploring the wonders and quirky corners of this remarkable historic estate.

Nottingham and Southwell
In Nottingham, we can see the Italian-inspired castle, built in the 17th century on the site of the Norman original, which had been destroyed in the Civil War. The legend of Robin Hood looms large at the castle, with his statue standing in front of the mediaeval gatehouse, and one can descend into the famous caves and tunnels under the castle and city through which he might have made his daring escapes from the Sheriff's men. At the quiet market town of Southwell, we'll visit the glorious Norman Minster – Nottingham's cathedral – and its exquisite 13th-century Chapter House.
