If you think the North-West's all clogs and dark, satanic mills, think again! There's beautiful countryside and ancient castles, majestic cathedrals, Roman ruins and our wildest holiday resort to visit!

Take a Beatles tour in Liverpool, see the amazing regeneration of the docks area or take a ferry across the Mersey... Visit Chester, an important centre in both Roman and Saxon times. It's the most complete walled city in the country, with stunning architecture from all periods... See witch-country and discover the facts and fictions of our very own 'Salem' on Pendle Hill, walk in the beautiful Forest of Bowland and count the holes in Blackburn Lancashire!

In Manchester, you can go to the country's only museum dedicated to the history of Britain's working people, and to a restored synagogue that now houses exhibitions on the city's Jewish community... And try not to miss Blackpool, Britain's biggest, brashest, blowsiest holiday resort, to walk the 'Golden Mile' of sand, buy a 'Kiss-Me-Quick' hat at the funfair, take in a traditional end-of-the-pier show, and see the famous illuminations in the summer!

From the 1870s to the 1960s Blackpool was THE holiday resort for the working classes of Lancashire and Yorkshire. Groups of friends and co-workers saved in holiday funds throughout the year to spend during the factories' shut-down periods ('Wakes Weeks') by the seaside. The town retains a wonderful atmosphere of unpretentious fun.
